In our Breath of Fire Company, we work in a mother-daughter affiliation.
Cornelia, our mother and creator of Breath of Fire, learned to stitch from our grandmother at a young age. Our grandmother’s passion had always been creating her own dresses. She would make the most beautiful embroidered dresses I had the pleasure to see and also to wear.
It was after having participated in her Kundalini yoga instructor training in the US in 2004, that Cornelia decided to create her own collection of sustainable clothing dedicated to Yoga. As some of you may know, in Kundalini Yoga, students are supposed to wear white clothes for energetic reasons. Cornelia quickly noticed that very often white clothing was made out of cheap transparent fabric, far from being organic or ethic! She decided to create a collection according to yogic philosophy combined with the spirit of European lifestyle. The production process should be environmentally friendly, and the fabrics should be of high quality and elegant.

This is how began the journey of our brand Breath of Fire, which in our early days was simply called Yogafashion. As everything is a process, the first production was creative and innovative, but it did not meet the standards of quality and ethics. This motivated Lia (Cornelia’s designer name) in 2009 to search and discover a high standard quality production in Portugal specialized in organic wear.
She quickly succeeded in creating an elegant brand, inspired by modern architecture and design according to the vision of „Less is more“, where one element will perfectly blend with another. All Breath of Fire yoga design were created to fit together and not as separate elements. This approach offers a pure and simple vision of fashion, from design to production to delivery.

Once the first collection was produced, Maya (my sister, a today confirmed artist www.mayarochat.com) helped to develop the visual language of the brand, a language inspired by beauty and nature. Thanks to Maya’s great talent, inspiring shoots were created, showing the elegance of our clothes and making you visualize the deep connection between the Breath of Fire brand and Mother Nature, our desire to sublimate our world through the beauty of the garments and the high ethical production standard.
In 2015, I (Pernelle, „freshly mastered“ in economics and law) took on the mission of managing the brand and to define the future vision of Breath of Fire. This work is always developed in osmosis with Lia and Maya, as well as our two employees Alexia and Chloe, my partner Antoine and his loving mother, Nicole. If our magnificent brand prospers and evolves, it is strongly linked to the strength of family and mutual support.
This adventure, as beautiful as it might be for us, sometimes brings its share of challenges because none of us came from the clothing industry. This project is the fruit of our common effort and was born with the help of many friends and retailers who have supported us throughout this long adventure.
